Dean grants Top Senior Researcher award to himself.

It sounds weird, but Philip Hans Franses, dean of the Erasmus School of Economics, granted himself a financial award for a fourth time in 5 years. He now has access to an additional amount of 10,000 euro on top of the vast financial resources he can access as a dean. Is the election procedure transparent enough?

(Rotterdam) – The ANDY Standard stumbled upon a very doubtful trend regarding the ‘Top Senior Lecturer’ awards. Careful investigation showed that many individuals are recurring on these list year after year. The best way to prove this, is to show you the lists of names that ‘earned’ this award.

It is clearly visible that each year, the very same individuals are granted an award. Especially the dean’s name, Philip Hans Franses, is remarkably listed 4 times in the last 5 years. Franses is the dean of the Erasmus School of Economics since September 2006, and is both Professor of Applied Econometrics and Professor of Marketing Research. Other frequent names are:

  • Han Bleichrodt (Professor of Behavioral Economics )
  • Eddy van Doorslaer (Professor of Health Economics, Department of Applied Economics)
  • Stefan Stremersch (Professor of Marketing, Desiderius Erasmus Distinguished Chair of Economics, Department of Business Economics)
  • Peter Wakker (Professor of Decision under Uncertainty, Econometric Institute )

will question these highly doubtful practices today during the 89th Council Meeting, 10am in H10-31 (room is preliminary). He will ask for transparency in the ‘election’ process.
