Dutch Railways (NS) compensates students after all.

The Dutch Railways have decided to also compensate students when traveling with the train. Students that own a week-travel-card are now allowed to travel for free on Sunday.

(Utrecht) – The NS wants to distribute the passenger load more evenly during the day because a lot of trains have mechanical failures caused by the last month’s snow and cannot be used. Earlier reports stated students were not eligible for some type of compensation because they were not annual season clients. The NS has now determined otherwise, because the actions up until now did not work that well.

If you own a week-travel-card you are eligible to travel for free on Sunday. If you own a weekend-travel-card you can travel with the cheaper ‘railrunner’ ticket after 7pm.
